SENIOR CRICKET ROUND-UP - WEEK 8: Iqbal Stars As 2s Sink Saints While Callingham's 83 & 6-For Helps 3s Earn 18-Point Draw Again

25 Jun 2017

SKIPPER Imran Iqbal's 7-40, the product of a relentlessly determined spell of bowling, was the force behind a sixth win of the summer for LGCC's 2nd XI against St. Albans II.

The 2s captain had earlier made 33 with the bat - one of a number of solid contributions including Nahim Iqbal (40), Ben Parkes (36), Connor Church (33) and Az Shakoor (30) - as Green posted a target 227 all out at Clarence Park.

Early Saints' wickets tumbled, leaving youngster Harry Kendall to offer best resistance with an impressive 36. He survived until five overs from the end when he edged one wide of gully where Richard Walker took a sharp catch to win the game - appropriately, off the bowling of seamer Iqbal.

Green 3s once again garnered 18 points from a draw having posted a 200+ target batting first - this time at London Colney II.

It was something of the Tom Callingham show for Gareth Tucker's team. He hit 83 at the top of the Levy innings, putting on over 100 for the first wicket with Mike Parkes (33).

Ashish Rai capitalised on Callingham's dominance with 64 not out to push the Green total to 245-7 from 52 overs.

A century and 57 respectively from Colney's opening batsmen had the result in the balance until Callingham intervened with a devastating spell of 6-37 from 11 overs.

The hosts closed under Green pressure on 212-8 from their 48 overs in reply.

Levy 1st XI will once again know they didn't post a sufficiently challenging target at home to Old Albanian whom, after struggling in reply initially, worked their way to a three-wicket victory at The Green.

OAs were 76-6 and lost their seventh wicket with the score on 110, chasing Green's 183 to win, but steadied the ship and went on to close out the win with three overs or so in hand.

In reaching their total, a number of Levy batsmen got good starts without going on to dominate. Sol Tomlinson top-scored with 48 and Dave Tyson struck 39 at No. 8.

Andy Green's 57, backed up by 34 from Mike Downes, provided the highlights for Levy Green 4s who suffered a 74-run defeat at the hands of Parkfield & Headstone III.

Levy reached 164-8 in reply to Parkfield's imposing target of 238-6 from their 40 overs.

Teenage seamer Hasan Ali picked up 2-39 from his eight overs while Josh Price - with 1-31 - proved the most economical of the Green bowling line-up.
