29 Mar 2024

IT'S APRIL at The Green, and here's what we've got lined up for LGCC members.

Please find below details based on the summary above for the latest events and other regular features of life in and around LGCC's community-focused clubhouse here at The Green.

Please note that all club events and clubhouse hires are shown within the 'Next Up At The Green' events section of our club website: lgcc.hitscricket.com. Do make that your first port of call in between our email updates, as this section is constantly updated.

And please, if you get a chance when next on Facebook, search out our new official 'page': Leverstock Green Cricket Club. There's a link to click from the current 'Leverstock Green CC Players & Supporters' group. We'll gradually move all our updates across to this public page, so we can be more visible online to the local community.

Here's what's coming up for you...

++++++
TUE APR 2 - CHRIS'S BANJO BASH: Bar 8.00pm, Music 8.15pm
Enjoy the foot-tapping sounds of bluegrass and old-time music courtesy of Chris Lawrance and his gang of maestros.

The monthly Banjo Bash takes place every first Tuesday of the calendar month, with instruments strumming from around 8.15pm.

The bar is open for you to enjoy a drink while listening to a group of talented musicians keep some really traditional sounds alive - sure to put a smile on your face.

+++++++
THU APR 4 & EVERY THURSDAY - YOGA & RELAXATION SESSION: Yoga 6.30pm, Bar 8.00pm
Come along and enjoy a relaxed yoga session under the watchful eye of a qualified tutor, every Thursday evening inside the LGCC clubhouse.

Mats are available to use should you not possess your own, and the group often stay behind for a quick drink after the clubhouse opens to others at 8.00pm.

Co-ordinator Glennis Taylor will be only too happy to welcome you along to a friendly group of like-minded folk. Please contact her for more information on 07778 797475.

++++++
SUN APR 7 - MONTHLY GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ NIGHT
It's thinking caps on time every first Sunday of the calendar month - and we'll be ready to welcome you for the latest monthly quiz night on Sunday April 7.

The clubhouse usually opens between 7pm and 7.15pm, with the aim to start between 7.30pm and 7.45pm.

The quizzes are set and designed to be quite informal and not too heavyweight; so they should appeal to a broad range of people among the LGCC membership.

Quiz teams can be formed of any number you'd like to bring. The entry fee of £2 per person is divided between the top performers. New participants are always very welcome - either as a whole team, or as individuals joining others.

Richard Walker is April's quizmaster and, as stated, the emphasis is on fun - nothing too intellectual and a few laughs guaranteed. See you there!

++++++
TUE APR 9 & EVERY TUESDAY IN APRIL - TAI CHI (QIGONG) SESSIONS: 10.30am to 11.30am
Targeted especially at senior members, enjoy something quite different at LGCC, as local instructor Fiona Walsh leads you through two free taster sessions of Tai Chi (Qigong).

These are gentle, strengthening easy movements which are perfect for beginners. Even better, you can stand or sit - as preferred - while taking part.

There's no need to book. Simply come along on a Tuesday morning, with £5 payable upon arrival.

Give it a try. Many have and are already really enjoying it.

++++++
THU APR 11 & THU APR 25 (every second & fourth Thursday of the month) - T@THEGREEN: Join Us For A Cuppa & A Chat - Free Community Event, All Welcome
LGCC's community-focused offering T@TheGreen continues with a April double, on both Thursday 11th and Thursday 25th.

As Tea@TheGreen continues into 2024, local people - some of whom may really appreciate the chance to spend time in the company of like-minded others - have been able to gather between 10.00am and 12noon twice a month for a cuppa and a chat.

Completely free to attend and personally hosted, everyone in the local community is welcome to pop by or stay for the whole two hours; whichever is most appealing.

Have a chat with other folk from around the village and surrounding areas, or simply sit back, relax and take in the calming view across The Green from our bright and airy clubhouse facility - while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and some light refreshments.

++++++
SAT APR 13 - SATURDAY SOCIAL: Live Music At LGCC with 'Crazy Dog'
Another new band to LGCC will be warmly welcomed on the evening of Saturday April 13 when 'Crazy Dog' play live for members and their family & friends.

Continuing our free-to-access live music gigs at The Green clubhouse, this gig comes hot on the heels of the hugely successful March 23 evening which saw The Silver Searchers make their LGCC debut.

Crazy Dog play all of the popular rock classics from throughout different generations and genres.

Once again, LGCC members are welcome to bring guests along as the club once again presents another live music event for everyone to enjoy.

++++++
MONDAY & WEDNESDAY EVENINGS: Darts Teams
Once again, congratulations to the Monday Night darts team on earning promotion out of Division One and into Old Bill's Charity Darts League's Premier Division for next season. Summer League fixtures will be produced soon.

The Wednesday darts team is now preparing for a home cup semi-final on May 1, after which there'll potentially be a cup final to look forward to; perhaps they can win it in tribute to the late Roger White; a much-missed star dartist for both the Monday & Wednesday sides.

Updates on fixtures can be found at the 'Upcoming Events' section of our club website lgcc.hitscricket.com, with fixtures from there listed for easy reference on the website's homepage.

To get involved and find out more about our two Darts teams, please contact Darts Secretary Roy Makins on 07312 080302.

++++++
LIVE FOOTBALL & OTHER SPORT ON THE BIG SCREENS
Remember if there's a major sporting event on a midweek evening or Sunday afternoon, we'll be showing it live on the two big screens inside the LGCC clubhouse. With full subscriptions to both Sky Sports and TNT Sports, you can swap pounds saved for pints at The Green while taking in the action alongside fellow club members and their guests.

++++++
ALL THIS AND NOT A MENTION OF CRICKET! Well - there is now...
Pre-season training for season 2024 starts soon; April 5 & 6 for juniors and April 9 for seniors - weather permitting, of course! Separate emails to crickety folk will be dispatched very soon.

And we're excited to announce the arrival of our overseas player. He lands on April 15 from Australia; more soon by way of personal profile and introduction!
