LGCC SUMMER 2024: Bar Open More Often During Cricket Season

01 May 2024

HAVING recently witnessed the first pair of rain-free consecutive days for a month, forgive us for using the word 'summer'!

There will be increased clubhouse bar opening times during the months ahead - while the cricket season is amongst us.

The main additions to usual LGCC bar times are as follows:

+ Friday evenings: bar open earlier from no later than 6.30pm while junior training takes place

+ Saturday afternoons: bar open from around 3.00pm while members & guests enjoy cricket on The Green

+ Saturday evenings: bar open every cricket Saturday for members & guests, 18 weekends between May 11 and September 7

+ Sunday lunchtimes: when junior fixtures are on The Green (check website homepage), bar open from 12noon

+ Other midweek evenings: if you see junior cricket on The Green on a Monday, Wednesday or Thursday evening, we'll hopefully have the bar open too - from around 6pm

So even if you don't like cricket (and who could blame you!), you can enjoy greater opportunities to come up to The Green, sit on our west-facing patio or grass surrounds and enjoy a drink & a chat with friends.

A reminder to all that the bar is 'staffed' via a volunteer 'Bar Rota'.

But what of this 'Bar Rota', you say?

It's a group of LGCC members who give up at least one afternoon or evening per month to staff the clubhouse bar. It saves the club from having any PAYE employees and the associated tax implications that brings.

They're a group of people passionate about the success of the club; some of them social members, some parents of junior players, some cricket players, some management committee members. A range of folk from across the club's demographic.

As a thank-you for their time, LGCC allows Bar Rota volunteers to access 20 per cent off of any bar purchases for their personal transactions (for clarity: not every round in a group, just when it's their turn to buy).

As it happens, due to changes of circumstances, there are one or two gaps on the volunteer rota. If you're attracted by the above-mentioned benefit, and feel you can give up one evening per month to help the club, then do please step forward.

Full training is provided before a first bar shift is undertaken, and even then you'll be accompanied to ensure all goes well. Please contact the club's Bar Manager Graham Evans on 07850 749256 for more information.
