LONG-SERVING LGCC women's cricket trailblazer Becky Tyson has made club history by putting pen to paper on a two-year professional contract with Hampshire.
Hampshire liked what they saw during an impressive pair of performances for their 'Southern Vipers' brand towards the end of the 2024 season - and moved to snap up the left-arm spin bowling all-rounder, fending off interest from other county set-ups.
Now, with the women's top-tier structure set to revert back to an eight-strong county line-up (made up of those winning bidders for the octet of available spots in the top tier of the game), Becky is all set to do battle against the very best female cricketers lining up on these shores during summer 2025.
The ground-breaking moment is her current zenith of a cricketing journey which started within the LGCC junior cricket ranks - just like the children of many parents reading this.
Quite separately from this opportunity, her proud parents are LGCC institutions in their own right.
Dave Tyson played over 35 years for the club's 1st XI and is considered its greatest-ever player; over 15,000 runs and 1,500 wickets provide simple evidence of his outstanding contribution as a fine ambassador for LGCC.
Ann Tyson is, by her own admission and indeed voluntarily, a 'cricket widow' - someone who's dedicated many hours, weeks and years to the support functions without which a cricket match cannot be played. In particular, her diligence and commitment as LGCC's 1st XI scorer is as determined in nature as it is accurate in detail.
It has been a family affair; Ann's father Alun Roberts, fast approaching his own century of years lived, holds a long-standing connection with the club as a top-class umpire, while Ann's brother Mike was a loyal and respected player and committee member.
It is, of course, with enormous delight that LGCC's management team learned of Becky's news, and the club's intention is to mark this momentous occasion with a fitting tribute at an appropriate moment in the future.
For now, keep your eyes on Hampshire women's cricket schedule, because one R Tyson - still a proud member of Leverstock Green CC - is about to experience her very own dream come true in 2025.
Go Becky!
