TWO QUALITY WINS: A Top Thursday

05 Jun 2014

LEVERSTOCK GREEN'S midweek 2nd XI will take the headlines on a night when the club won a double-bill of midweek action - then followed the victory with a free Quality feed from its official 'Baggy Green' caps partner.

Abbas Ali (pictured) hit 37 and Neil Fleming an unbeaten 25 in a sixth-wicket stand of 62 which effectively won the match for Gareth Tucker's team at Rickmansworth in Round Two of the Watford Observer Fourteen14 Shield.

It was the tightest with Green squeezing through on fewer wickets lost (nine) after their run chase ended level with the host's earlier 128 all out.

An extraordinary Levy batting display saw Ben Parkes (24) and Jamie Wallis (6) the only other two batsmen to trouble the scorers as seven ducks were recorded during the 14 eight-ball over run chase.

Meanwhile, at Bedmond Road, Tring Park's bowling was dispatched to all parts of The Green as Sam Mazurek's midweek 1s ran up a giant 180-4 off the regulation 20 six-ball overs in what was a Heath Park Cup quarter-final.

Dave Tyson (43) and Nick Merrett (38) put on 84 for the first wicket during an innings which saw 42 not out from Kris Jadeja and 36 not out from Sam Revell end Levy's overs with an unbroken 77-run stand.

Tring never threatened a response in reply. Wickets were shared around - notably three apiece for slower-ball exponents Adam Thomas and Sam Mazurek - as the visitors could only reach 111 before an Imran Iqbal yorker ended proceedings with two balls of the final over left.

The midweek cricket picture now looks like this:

WO Fourteen14
- 'A' team, having lost in Shield Round One, are awaiting the Plate draw.
- 'B' team are awaiting the Quarter-Final draw. Their win over Ricky was a Round Two tie, having had a bye in Round One.

Heath Park Cup
- 'A' team had a bye in Round One and are now awaiting other matches to see who they will visit in the semi-final after beating Tring Park in the quarter-final.
- 'B' team are out, having lost to Northchurch in Round One.
