HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP: 1s The Only Winners - But How!

31 May 2014

FIVE wickets for just 15 runs in only 3.5 overs meant it was all smiles for Sam Mazurek at the end of his first appearance of the season as Leverstock Green 1s beat Abbots Langley 1s but just three runs.

Charging down the slope at The Green, his left-arm pace shredded Abbots Langley's batting line-up - as they crumbled from 112 for 5 to 136 all out, just short of Levy's 139 all out on a tricky pitch.

Earlier, opener Lewis Koch batted patiently for his 40 while Mazurek (17) and 24 not out from Majid Khan helped put on what proved a priceless 31-run ninth-wicket partnership.

The 2nd XI's trip to Parkfield & Headstone was the only Herts League fixture to fall foul of the poor midweek weather.

Tom Callingham's 50 was the highlight of the day for the 3rd XI who again under-achieved with the bat.

They were reduced to 132 all out, after Steve May's 4 for 29 and Brett Baney's 4-36 had earlier restricted hosts Old Elizabethans 2s to 163 all out.

In Division 12 (West), two scores of 22 at either end of the batting order helped Mark Pearson's 4s to post 118 for 9 against Watford Town V at Parmiter's School.

Graham Evans' 22 was a watchful one from his opener's berth, while Ellis Allan came in at No. 10 and made short shrift of some Town bowling during his seasonal bow.

In reply, Town lost five wickets chasing down the target - three of which fell to Dave Cardy with Chrishan Casey claiming the other two.

Club Captain's Saturday Star Man:
Sam Mazurek (1st XI) for his 5-15, a match-winning seasonal debut.
