HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP: #120 Points - Again

22 Jun 2014

FOR the second successive week, Leverstock Green chalked up a maximum 120 Herts League points - and they were all hard-earned this time.

Ben Parkes (pictured) is currently averaging 49.4 from his five second XI innings after another half-century helped steer the 2nd XI to a fifth straight bowl-first victory at home to Wheathampstead II. Imran Iqbal's 5-for did the damage earlier in the afternoon.

There were thrilling wins for the other three teams - all via differing scenarios.

Mark Pearson's 4th XI reached the 151-run victory target with just one wicket standing, thanks to his own unbeaten 24 and a winning single from five-wicket Greg Coulshed. Chris Renwick also starred with four victims and 42 runs.

Gareth Tucker took the winning catch with just 10 balls to spare as the 3s finally removed Hatfield & Crusaders III at Parmiter's School, having posted a giant 233-2 thanks in the main to a fine unbeaten 129 from Ash Ali, well supported by Graham Evans (37). Brett Baney and Steve May too four and three wickets respectively before Matt Lake claimed the winning dismissal.

Over at Met Police Bushey, the 1st XI chased down Hemel Town II's 219 all out for the loss of seven wickets but with just eight balls to spare. Adam Thomas bowled very well without reward, allowing Brad Klosterman's 5-for to help restrict Hemel to a chaseable total. Lewis Koch hit 62 and Marc Simonds 38 but it was the seventh-wicket stand between skipper Dave Tyson (41) and Kris Jadeja (38 not out) which finally swung the run chase in Green's favour.

Club Captain's Saturday Star Man:
Happily, it's getting harder to choose every week with contenders on the increase; Greg Coulshed's bat & ball exploits, Chris Renwick, Ben Parkes, Lewis Koch and others all in contention.
But it's impossible this week to look past 129 not out in the 3rd XI from returning former Green star Ash Ali.
