HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 6: Casey's Four-For Helps 3s Win In Weekend Of Mixed Fortunes

14 Jun 2015

CHRISHAN CASEY'S four-wicket haul - allied to the batting of Stuart Evans (59) - ensured Leverstock Green's 3rd XI left Cockfosters IV as emphatic winners.

With the 4s postponed, the 1s falling at Radlett II and the 2s narrowly missing out on chasing down their victory target, it meant Gareth Tucker's team were the only LGCC winners on a Saturday of mixed fortunes as the Saracens Herts League returned to its traditional 53/47 overs format.

By the time Casey (pictured) had collected 4-27 - making it 10 wickets in total for a promising season so far - and Brett Baney 3-39, Green 3s had posted an impressive 225-9 thanks to not only Stuart Evans but brother Graham (35) and Neil Fleming (32).

In reply, the hosts were skittled for just 68.

LEE LITTLEJOHN'S power-packed unbeaten 70 - from just 50 balls - couldn't quite help Levy 2nd XI to victory at home to Ampthill Town II.

The visitors scored 185-8 from a rain-reduced 41 overs at The Green, Abbas Ali's 3-23 from seven overs the pick of the LGCC bowling figures.

In reply, Green opening bat Ben Parkes cashed in on anything short or wide to hit 56 but fellow top-order operators came and went, leaving Littlejohn to almost single-handedly carry the chase. Ali played a fine supporting hand with a late 25 but, having gleaned 18 from the penultimate six balls of the match, Green couldn't fine the six more they needed from a well-bowled 35th & final over so had to settle for a draw.

GREEN 1st XI lost their 100% start to fellow unbeaten side Radlett II at Cobden Hill - and it was a convincing defeat.

LGCC were dismissed for just 74; 23 the top score from Miles Barnard with only two other players reaching double figures.

In-form seamer Adam Thomas at least picked up a couple of Radlett wickets in reply, as the hosts made short work of a simple task.

GREEN 4s will hope to be back in action this weekend after Parmiter's School pitch was declared unfit for play on the morning of their scheduled game at home to West Herts V.
