HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 9: Parkes Sees 4s Home For Only Win As 3s Held To Tie At Home

06 Jul 2015

MIKE PARKES was key to maintaining LGCC 4th XI's winning momentum as his knock of 46 proved crucial to a win marred by injury to skipper Greg Coulshed.

The 4s had to play most of the match with 10 men after the captain ruptured his Achilles in innocuous fashion just after delivering a ball in his the game's 13th over.

Green restricted hosts Boxmoor IV to 128-5 from their 47 overs, with Andy Welch's parsimonious 11-over spell of 2-15 no little help.

In reply, it took a steadying knock of 46 at No. 5 from wicketkeeper Parkes - allied to 22 not by Welch and an opening 19-run salvo from Mark Pearson - to steer Levy to a three-wicket win.

IT was more frustration than celebration after Green 3rd XI were dismissed for a 20-points-each tie at home to Knebworth Park IV.

Steve May (19) was the last wicket to fall with the scores level on 179. Stuart Evans' 48, and useful knocks lower down the order by Dan Lake (33) and Karl Turner (23) helped put victory in sight but the 3s had to settle for only a share of the spoils.

Wickets were shared around earlier in the day with Turner's 15-over spell going for just 32 runs.

OLD OWENS reached Leverstock Green 1st XI's total of 199-9 at the start of the game's final over on The Green, for the loss of seven wickets.

The game was in the balance with 20 overs remaining but Green couldn't make a break-through at the crucial time and matters slipped away from them late on.

Kris Jadeja's 44 and 43 from Lewis Koch provided a solid start for Levy but wickets fell regularly to restrict freedom of shot-making.

Mark Landau's middle-order 30 and 27 not out by Imran Iqbal ensured Owens would at least have to work for their victory.

Adam Thomas was the pick of the Green seam attack, claiming four victims for the cost of 42 runs from his 15 overs.

IT was a day to forget for LGCC 2nd XI at Sandridge.

Having worked tirelessly in the field to keep the host's score to a manageable figure, Green threw any chance of success away with some injudicious shot selection.

Tom Callingham's 5-89 from his 15 overs was backed up by 2-41 from Lee Littlejohn and Ashish Rai's 11 overs for just 26 runs.

But with 209 needed for the win, the 2s only got as far as 63 all out - Littlejohn's top-scoring 17 the tell-tale sign of a team that knew it had under-performed with the bat.
