HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 10: Blagden's Century The Highlight As Green Win Three & Draw The Other

10 Jul 2016

HARRY BLAGDEN'S classy 129 helped set Levy Green 2nd XI on the way to what ended up as a last-gasp victory at home to Hitchin II - this during a Herts League Saturday which saw three wins and a draw for the club.

The late drama came at The Green, where Sam Roberts took two wickets in the game's penultimate over to dismiss Hitchin II for 189, with Levy having earlier racked up 252-6 declared from 49.5 overs.

Blagden's first century for Levy was backed up with 54 for Keith Glasscoe before, with the ball, Ben Goode charged in for 15 overs to take 4-84. He was the pick of the bowlers, although both Jillani Ghulam and Roberts each bagged three wickets apiece to send LGCC 2s back into second in Division 5A.

LGCC 1st XI are up to fifth in Division One after making short work of Hitchin. Green skittled the hosts for just 66, with Majid Khan the key man with the ball - returning figures of 6-38. Adam Thomas picked up three more dismissals at the other end.

In reply, Levy lost three wickets but were always in the driving seat after a brisk start from both Sol Tomlinson (28) and Lewis Koch (24).

GREEN 4th XI maintained third position in Regional Division C West after disciplined bowling restricted Abbots Langley IV to 137-8 from their 42 overs.

Among other good bowling performances, debutant Harry Sturgess claimed a wicket from his economic seven-over spell.

Mike Parkes' unbeaten 62 led the chase from an opening slot. Atul Tomar added his own style to the march to a seven-wicket victory with three sixes among his 24 not out as the 4s got home inside 28 overs at Toms Lane.

LEVY GREEN 3s couldn't quite close out victory at Parmiter's against Abbots Langley III.

Abbots ended 170-7, chasing Green's 204-6, so it was points-laden draw for Neil Fleming's team.

Rory Fleming struck 57 not out while Stuart Evans hit 52 as Levy posted a formidable target.

Two wickets apiece for opening bowlers Steve May and Chrishan Casey gave Levy hope of victory, but dogged middle-order resistance meant Abbots weren't to be beaten.
