RORY 'CUBICLE' FLEMING was LGCC's top performer as the 18 weeks of Herts League action kicked off on Saturday - a fine 95 for the 3s who fell agonisingly eight runs short of a giant 293-run target.
Captain Gareth Tucker (27) and Becky Tyson (23) offered best support to Fleming, who eventually fell late on as the 3rds ran out of overs to end on 284-9.
It's the 50-50 win/lose format to kick things off for the opening weeks - and it was the 2nd XI, led by new skipper Imran Iqbal, who were the only one of four Levy teams to emerge victorious.
Nahim Iqbal (57) and Mark Landau (55 not out) both hit half-centuries, and, backed up by Dave Tyson's 46 and 37 from Richard Walker, it allowed the 2s to post 259-5 at Old Cholmeleians.
The hosts reply was racing along at above the required rate until the slow bowling combo of Tyson and Walker reeled off 20 overs straight at a cost of just 58 runs; Tyson's 3-19 the pick of the bowling figures.
Old Cholms never truly got back on track, yet ended just 32 runs short of Green's score.
At The Green, the fact Kris Jadeja's 38 was Levy 1st XI's top score told a story of wickets lost too regularly as the Green were dismissed for 150 in the 35th of 50 potential overs.
It took visitors Harpenden II little more than 25 overs to reach the target for the loss of three wickets.
Newly-installed 4s skipper Dave Young was delighted with a vibrant performance from the youngsters in the side, many of whom played a full part in a thrilling game that West Herts VI won with just seven balls to spare.
Teenager Aryan Tomar top-scored for Levy with 44, batting for much of Green's innings with the experienced Andy Welch (32) as the 4s posted 191-6 from their 40 overs at Parmiter's.
In reply, Under-15 spinner Josh Price was Levy's star turn with ball in hand, collecting 2-31 from 7.5 overs. Welch took 3-37 and 16-year-old Luke Carl claimed 3-40 from a maximum eight-over allocation as nine West Herts wickets fell before they reached the target score.

SUNDAY saw occasional player Rob Cooke's stag T20 match at a sun-baked Green, with action going right down to the final ball. Teams led by Cooke senior and junior were separated by just two runs at the end of the game's 40th over.
We hope you enjoyed your visit to LGCC.
