SENIOR CRICKET ROUND-UP - WEEK 2: Iqbal & Landau In Runs Again As 2s & 3s Record Wins

14 May 2017

NAHIM IQBAL and Mark Landau continued their fine early-season form with the bat for the 2nd XI as two of the four LGCC sides emerged victorious on Herts League matchday No. 2.

It's now successive half-centuries for both Iqbal (71) and Landau (62) in the first two weeks of the Herts League season - and their scores laid a platform for what ended up as a 77-run victory at home to Waltham Cross Rosedale.

Richard Walker's mid-order 39 also played its part in helping Levy post 252-7 from their 50 overs, batting first having won the toss at The Green.

Three dismissals apiece for Imran Iqbal and Dave Tyson during WX's reply ensured wickets fell regularly enough for the visitor's chase to be kept at arm's length - with the highlight in the field an early run-out by Dom Clarke and a key catch on the run from John Mathew, who earlier bowled with pace and hostility.

Green 3s made short work of Kings Langley III at Parmiter's School.

They skittled the local opposition for 68, marked by three wickets for Ritchie Carruthers - making a welcome return from a long injury lay-off. Oli Sawyer's leg-spin also garnered three victims with Steve May taking 2-2.

LGCC needed just 15 or so overs to knock off the feeble target, with Tom Callingham's unbeaten 41 the backbone of a resounding eight-wicket victory.

A second sub-200 score gave rise to a second defeat for LGCC 1s at Old Owens, with the hosts scoring 174 to win with nine balls to spare.

Opener Lewis Koch hit 43 and Kris Jadeja scored 33 but there were scant contributions from elsewhere, leaving Dayle Littlejohn and Adam Thomas to dig in at the end of the innings to add 25 for the last wicket at Green posted 173-9 from the full 50 overs.

Jadeja's swing bowling provided the pick of the Levy bowling figures, 3-27 from his 10 overs, with only Littlejohn (2-43) harvesting more than a single dismissal.

Denied Herts League action by Kings Langley IV conceding their fixture, Green 4s picked up a feature alternative with an away game at Tring Park IV - which ebbed & flowed nicely and provided some Levy highlights.

Josh Price bowled beautifully for his 3-20, while Brett Baney - like Carruthers in the 3s - also returned from a long-term knee injury to collect a couple of wickets from his eight overs.

Ian Wallis led Green's chase of Tring's 180-7 with an unbeaten 44 at No. 8 - but only Atul Tomar (25) had made a significant contribution before him.

Levy closed on 136 all out but enjoyed a rare trip to Beechwood to face a team from Tring Park CC, who play their Saturday cricket in the Thames Valley League.
