HERTS LEAGUE ROUND-UP - WEEK 10: Classy Claxton In Form As Both 1s & 4s Chase 200-plus For Victory

14 Jul 2015

KYLE CLAXTON'S stylish 78 was the highlight for LGCC 1st XI who chased down Ickleford's target of 255 to record a four-wicket win and keep within range of Radlett II at the top of Saracens Herts League Division 2A.

Local knowledge meant Green were the happier of the two teams at tea, with tight lines from skipper Dayle Littlejohn and Ajit Kumar (three wickets apiece) helping to keep the visitors from racking up a score nearer the 300 mark.

Two early dismissals couldn't faze the classy Claxton, who anchored a chase which also saw a swashbuckling 54 from Kris Jadeja, Littlejohn's 40 and an aggressive finish from Mark Landau with 39 not out.

EQUALLY impressive on Herts League matchday 10 was the 4th XI's chase at Kings Langley IV to keep them third and well in touch with the leaders in Regional Division C West.

The hosts declared after 46 overs on 201-6, with Green's bowling duties having been shared around seven protagonists of varying ages and experience, but Kings hadn't reckoned on a sterling effort with the bat from their opponents.

Andy Green's 45 not out from No. 7 eventually helped tip Levy over the winning line, yet the chase was a product of several handy middle-order contributions from the likes of Nick James, Derrick Sheldon and also 15 not out from young James Downes.

JAMIE WALLIS was left frustrated that his Green 2nd XI weren't celebrating success away to Harpenden III.

Levy's 225-7 looked a decent enough score, and indeed it was with the ball that Green surrendered their advantage - none of the attack able to exert any control over a Harpenden side who eventually chased down the score seven wickets down and with nine balls to spare.

Sam Roberts - with 3-64 from the maximum 15 overs - was the pick of an ordinary day with the ball for Levy.

Earlier in the afternoon, Wallis had set the tone with the bat, compiling a patient 33. Luke Weston hit 50, Tom Callingham 28 and the innings ended with a quick-fire Richard Walker cameo of 24 not out to set the hosts what should have proved a challenging enough target.

IT was an afternoon best forgotten for LGCC 3s at home to North Mymms III.

Skittled for just 68, an innings which saw only Lewis Glasscoe (19) hit double figures, the opposition skated to a 10-wicket win with the minimum of fuss.
